A new year

My mother wrote to me today, and along with some complaints about my lack of blogging these days, she ended with the following:

Well, making lentil soup with smoked turkey and mushrooms and putting a puzzle together today.  Quite the exciting life I lead, huh?

This is funny not because she is 65 (eeks, Mom!) and retired and living in a sleepy little town, but because I, not 65, not retired, and living in Chicago, was doing this today:
